How to Join CS2 Community Servers

Valve moved community servers behind a few menus in Counter-Strike 2, so plenty of players never find them. There are three ways in, and the console is the fastest once you know it.

Enable the developer console first

Nothing below works until the console is on. Open Settings, go to the Game tab, and set "Enable Developer Console" to Yes. The default key is the tilde (`~`), immediately left of the 1 key.

If tilde does nothing, check Settings → Keyboard/Mouse → UI Keys and look at "Toggle Console". On some non-US layouts the bind lands on a key that does not exist on your board.

Method 1: the connect command

This is the quickest route and the one every server list gives you. Open the console and type connect followed by the address and port:

connect 159.69.56.27:27016

Press Enter and the game disconnects from whatever you are in and joins directly. If the server is full or restarting you will drop back to the main menu with a short message rather than an error.

Method 2: the in-game server browser

From the main menu choose Play, then Community Server Browser. The Internet tab lists public servers; the Favorites tab keeps the ones you add. Right-click any server and pick "Add to favorites" so you never have to search again.

The browser filters are worth setting once: filter by "Has users playing" and by your preferred game mode, otherwise you scroll through hundreds of empty servers.

Method 3: a direct link

Links in the steam://connect/ format open Steam and join in one click. Every server card on COLDPEEK uses this for its Connect button, which is why it works without you touching the console at all.

Common connection problems

  • "Server is not responding" — the server is restarting or changing map. Wait about thirty seconds and try again.
  • Console opens but connect does nothing — you probably typed a space in the address, or missed the port after the colon.
  • You join and immediately drop — usually a VAC or Steam session issue. Restart Steam entirely, not just the game.
  • High ping on a nearby server — check whether a download or another device is saturating your connection before blaming the host.
