How to Rank Up in CS2
Most players who are stuck are not stuck because of aim. They are stuck because they repeat the same five mistakes every match and never see them, because nobody reviews their own demos.
Fix your deaths, not your kills
Write down how you died in every round for one match. You will find the same three causes over and over: peeked a known angle without utility, was caught out of position rotating late, or took a fight the round did not need. None of those are aim problems, and all of them are fixable this week.
Learn four smokes, not forty
Two smokes and two flashes on the map you play most is enough to change your win rate. Players who try to memorise every lineup on every map end up confident on none of them. Pick the executes your team actually runs and drill them until you can throw them without thinking.
Warm up, every time
- Ten minutes of deathmatch before the first queue of the session, not after losing the first match.
- Five minutes on the pistol, because the round that sets the whole half is the one nobody practises.
- One map of retakes if you have time — it puts you back in the habit of using utility before entering.
- Do not warm up for an hour. Past about twenty minutes you are spending the concentration you needed for the match.
Play fewer matches, better
Rating falls fastest in the fourth and fifth match of a session, when concentration is gone but stubbornness is not. Two focused matches a night beats six tired ones, and it is the single most common difference between players who climb and players who grind.
Watch one demo a week
Not a pro demo — your own. Watch a match you lost, at 2x speed, and stop at every death. It is unpleasant and it works faster than anything else on this list, because you cannot fix a habit you have never seen.
